When hurricane Omar battered down on St. Maarten
in the early morning of Thursday October 16, PJIAE was well prepared
to withstand and recover in record time. “From Wednesday morning,
October 15, when I arrived at work all department managers started
discussing immediate actions to be taken in preparation for the
hurricane,” said Operations Director Larry Donker. By 6.30pm, after
all preparations had been made, the last flights had departed; the
airport was closed and ready for Omar. By 4.00pm the next day, the
airport was reopened; there had been some minor damage to the west
fence and at the west side of the building the hurricane blew in
some debris, but besides that there was nothing to keep normal
operations from resuming. Below are some pictures of pre-hurricane
preparations and post hurricane works.
