PJIA Airport Taxi Association attends
FCCA conference in DR
Mr.
Jean Samuel, President of the Airport Taxi Association (ATA) says the
conference that he attended in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in
October left him with a “positive feeling” about getting more work for
his members. Samuel attended the conference by the Florida Caribbean
Cruise Association (FCCA) together with ATA Assistant Secretary Leonard
Gumbs.
“It was well attended. There were folks there from all islands,” he
relays. St. Maarten taxi drivers were well represented, as members of
the Taxi Association of the Dutch Side were also in attendance, as were
executives from the Harbour.
Samuel called the conference “quite informative,” noting that they had
good interactions with cruise liners on how to go about getting more
work from cruise ship passengers. The ATA President said the meetings
gave him a good sense on how to better market his members’ services.
“We actually went out to market the entire island, but our core customer
base of course is airport arrivals.” ATA’s intention at the conference
was also to highlight the fact that they are available for the cruise
ship passengers that fly into St. Maarten and need to get to cruise
ships here.
“We went to show what we have to offer,” Mr. Samuel said.
ATA is already looking into the matters the cruise liners told stated
were crucial, such as the appropriate insurance for all 80 members of
the association. “They have strict criteria that we have to adhere to.
And were planning to step up our promotional activities,” Mr. Samuel
said.
Samuel is excited about the new prospects. “I am really happy with how
it all went and I have a positive feeling about what to expect. I am
pleased with the outcome so far. ATA will work hard to take advantage of
the new opportunities that we saw
there.”
